WHEN THE BUFFALO ARE ALL SLAUGHTERED, THE WILD HORSES ARE ALL TAMED, THE SECRET CORNERS OF THE FORREST HEAVY WITH THE SCENT OF MANY MEN, AND THE VIEW OF THE RIPE HILLS BLOTTED BY TALKING WIRES, WHERE IS THE THICKET? WHERE IS THE EAGLE? GONE.”
When we purchased our farm, 23 years ago, I volunteered with a local animal rescue group to foster animals in need. Then, one evening, an adult male Bengal was brought to me to care for. It wasn’t just his beauty, but his behavior was unlike any cat that I had ever owned or had in my care. I was intrigued. His intelligence amazed me. We became bonded. I named him Harley, aka “Mr. love of my life”, and he lived out the remainder of his life with our family. That is where our story begins.
Over the next few years, I began researching the breed, trying to understand its uniqueness. Then, 15 years ago, we purchased our first breeding pair. Soon after, we began showing our cats and networking with some of the top Bengal breeders in the world. This is a breed that is still evolving and we are constantly improving our breeding program. Until recently, there have been no genetic tests available to screen for potential health issues. So, I poured over pedigrees and followed health posts and chat groups, to select breeding stock that had been proven to be genetically sound through generations. We have been fortunate to have no serious health problems in the lines that we have chosen to work with. Now, as the breed has celebrated 25 years of being recognized by The International Cat Association, there ae several DNA tests available to diagnose some genetic diseases that has helped us to continue to produce healthy pets for families to enjoy.
Our first focus is to breed cats that are well tempered, genetically healthy, and are outstanding examples of the breed. While many of our cats would do well in a show hall or breeding facility, ultimately, they will be someone’s pet, a responsibility we take very seriously. We also pride ourselves in being able to offer a wide variety of colors and patterns, as well as rare, cutting edge traits that most Bengal breeders do not include in their breeding programs. We were one of the first catteries to breed for the longhair variant, known as Cashmere Bengals. In the Spring of 2017, we will be offering our first, non standard colors, blue and chocolate! We look forward to our first Savannah kittens that will be rare, charcoal snow and charcoal brown spotted. We do not just raise cats, it is our passion!
Many of our clients report, “this is the best cat I have ever owned!”. If you have ever been loved by an animal, the experience is one that needs no explanation. If you have never had that experience, no description is possible.
